Manual handoff starts a fresh session and seeds it with a displayed custom handoff message, not an assistant message. Session persistence normally waits for an assistant message before creating the session file, which made the new handoff session exist only in memory until later activity. Persist the seeded handoff session after injecting the handoff context, and record the previous session file as its parent so lineage remains discoverable.
