Gated the read.renderMarkdown opt-in at read time (details tagging) instead
of inside the renderer. The renderer gate silently flipped every
protocol-supplied text/markdown read (skill://, pr://, issue://, history://,
rule://, omp://, agent://, vault://, local://, memory://, ssh://) from the
formatted markdown cell to the raw code cell when the setting was off, which
regressed default TUI behavior. Local file tagging now happens only when the
setting is enabled, so the default render path is byte-identical to the
pre-setting behavior while opt-in previews still work end-to-end.
Also inlined the tautological isMarkdownContentPath wrapper, pinned the
widened prose-summary bypass (.mdx stays verbatim when prose summaries are
off) with a test, and documented it under Changed in the changelog.
- Removed `selector`/`sel` arguments from read and grep tool schemas and related execution arg handling.
- Reworked read and grep path processing to parse line selectors from `path` suffixes instead of separate fields, including inline range propagation.
- Updated delegation and execution call paths (including JS/Python preludes and executor tests) to pass selectors embedded in `path`.
- Updated read/grep prompt docs and changelog for the breaking inline-selector API, and removed obsolete selector-specific tests and expectations.
The v16.3.12 explicit `selector` field (ff3b0c795c) was consumed by the
read tool but never threaded into the TUI renderers: ReadRenderArgs in
both readToolRenderer (read.ts) and ReadToolGroupComponent only derived
selectors from path-embedded `:sel` suffixes, so split-arg calls like
{ path, selector: "2-3" } rendered bare paths without line ranges or
raw modifiers.
Joined the explicit selector (trimmed, leading colons stripped, non-string
guarded) back onto the display path in renderCall, renderResult error and
success branches, and the grouped read summary, keeping hyperlinks on the
base path only.
Adopted from PR #4904 (both commits squashed), minus its unrelated
workflow-notice.md prompt churn.
Fixes#4899
Add the read.renderMarkdown setting (off by default) to render Markdown read results as formatted terminal Markdown previews instead of raw source.
Centralize Markdown detection in isMarkdownPath() (now covering .md, .markdown, .mdx, .mdc, .mkd, .mdown) and use it consistently across the read tool and all internal-URL protocols (local, memory, skill, ssh, vault) so the preview renderer recognizes Markdown files uniformly. Markdown read results stay verbatim for the model; only the TUI rendering changes.
- Switch all UI components and tests from sharp box corners (`boxSharp`) to rounded ones (`boxRound`).
- Update `Theme` to re-export sharp junction symbols (tees and cross) under `boxRound` to ensure consistent divider rendering in rounded boxes.
- Remove outdated architectural notes regarding forced tool-choice queues in documentation.
Fix all Windows-specific test failures caused by path handling problems
and EBUSY errors from unclosed SQLite database handles.
Root causes fixed:
1. POSIX path assumptions: replaced hard-coded file:///tmp, /repo, etc.
with pathToFileURL/path.resolve/path.join computed expectations
2. shortenPath() now normalizes backslashes to forward slashes after ~
and respects home directory boundaries
3. HistoryStorage.resetInstance() leaked its Database — added #close()
that finalizes all prepared statements and closes the DB
4. AgentStorage gained the same resetInstance()/#close() pattern
5. SqliteAuthCredentialStore.close() leaked one-off prepared statements
from inline this.#db.prepare() calls — wrapped each in try/finally
6. model-cache.ts used a process-global DB even for custom dbPath —
now opens/closes per-call via withModelCacheDb
7. createAgentSession leaked AuthStorage on construction failure —
added ownsAuthStorage cleanup in catch block
8. MnemopiBackend.removeDbFiles() now truly best-effort (catches errors)
9. TempDir retry window expanded from 4x10ms to 40x25ms
10. TempDir prefix convention: non-@ prefixes created dirs relative to
cwd instead of os.tmpdir() — all test temp dirs now use @ prefix
11. Shell-escaped interpolated paths in bash tool tests
12. git core.autocrlf false in autoresearch test repo init
All 522 previously-failing Windows tests now pass.
- Enabled clickable read-path output for result rows, summaries, and previews.
- Resolved read links from result paths, source metadata, internal URLs, and absolutes.
- Preserved selector suffixes while rendering line-anchor hyperlinks.
- Ignored aborted signals for plain-file and directory reads while keeping conflicts-cancel behavior.
- Added tests for non-abortable read behavior and link-label rendering regression coverage.
- Updated task call and result rendering to process shared context with the Markdown renderer, so context sections are now displayed with proper Markdown formatting.
- Stopped shimmer animation on pending bash/eval/task blocks once async state is `running`, preventing the committed frame from freezing a transient dark border segment.
- Adjusted rule path display to fall back to a root-relative path when cwd-relative resolution is unavailable.
- Centralized transcript spacing by stripping blank edges and inserting separators.
- Removed per-component leading spacers and empty placeholders that added extra gaps.
- Introduced TranscriptBlock grouping so related outputs render as single transcript children.
- Updated transcript-related tests to validate one-row block separators and blank-line trimming.
- Added `setPaddingY` to `Box` and used `setBoxPaddingForFramedBlock` when rendering framed outputs.
- Read tool results now skipped vertical padding in framed blocks, removing extra blank rows above and below the output.
- Added a regression test for `ToolExecutionComponent` that confirmed framed read content no longer renders extra blank lines.
- Added image-reference rendering to make `[Image #N]` placeholders clickable in chat.
- Added MIME-aware image blob materialization with extensioned sidecar paths.
- Added clickable path, line, and URL hyperlinks for read, search, and fetch outputs.
- Hardened OSC8 hyperlink emission with URI validation and control-byte/idempotency checks.
