- Added the `xd://` virtual device protocol (`internal-urls/xd-protocol.ts`, `tools/xdev.ts`): tools declaring `loadMode: "discoverable"` are unmounted from the request tools array and driven via `read xd://` (list/docs+schema) and `write xd://<tool>` (execute), gated by the `tools.xdev` setting (default on) and inlined into the system prompt.
- Merged the `irc`, `job`, and `launch` tools into a single `hub` tool (`tools/hub/`, `async/job-manager.ts`): messaging keeps `send`/`inbox`/`list`, job control maps to `wait`/`cancel`/`jobs`, process supervision keeps `start`/`logs`/`stop`/`restart`/`describe` with `ps`, and the unified `wait` races background jobs against peer messages; SDK `IrcTool`/`JobTool`/`LaunchTool` are replaced by `HubTool`.
- Removed the hidden `resolve` tool in favor of the `xd://resolve`/`xd://reject`/`xd://propose` resolution devices, auto-including `write` whenever a deferrable tool or plan mode is present.
- Removed the BM25 tool-discovery system: the `search_tool_bm25` tool, the `tool-discovery` module, the `tools.discoveryMode`/`mcp.discoveryMode`/`mcp.discoveryDefaultServers`/`tools.essentialOverride` settings, per-tool MCP selection, and the `mcp_tool_selection` message type.
- Unified tool presentation on `ToolLoadMode` (`essential`|`discoverable`), replacing the custom-tool `xdev?: boolean` opt-out; custom, extension, MCP, RPC host, image-generation, and TTS tools now default to `discoverable`, and added a `satisfies` predicate to `SoftToolRequirement`.
- Removed the standalone `ssh` command tool and `ssh/ssh-executor` (the `ssh://` read/write/search protocol stays), and made `--tools` address hidden built-ins.
- Updated collab-web to render `xd://` dispatches and `hub` op families, dropped the `search_tool_bm25`/`ssh`/`report-finding` renderers, refreshed tool docs and prompts, and migrated the affected tests and changelogs.
- Added `StrippedToolCallsMarker` to identify assistant messages with dangling tool calls that were removed during context building.
- Updated `buildSessionContext` to preserve turn entries in transcripts even when all content is stripped, marking them with the count of elided calls.
- Updated `UiHelpers` to render a dim, italicized placeholder in the TUI when an assistant message has elided tool calls, preventing silent activity gaps.
- Enabled persistence of dangling tool calls during transcript rebuilds by adding `keepDanglingToolCalls` configuration.
- Integrated `seal()` logic for pending tool blocks to properly finalize history during idle session states.
- Enhanced UI helpers and session context to preserve assistant turns during streaming or mid-turn rebuilds.
- Added comprehensive unit and integration tests to verify correct tool call tracking and transcript integrity.
Avoided reattaching snapcompact archive image blocks when rebuilding collapsed transcript contexts so live TUI resumes do not retain archived frames.

fix(compaction): cap snapcompact frame payloads (#3866)
Bound rebuilt snapcompact image payloads by a per-request base64 byte
budget so long sessions stop re-sending multi-megabyte standing image
archives on every provider request; auto-compaction falls back to
context-full summaries when snapcompact output is too large.
Resolved snapcompact.ts conflict against the main font-rendering refactor
by keeping both renderabilityProbeText and the frame-budget helpers.
Fixed historyBlocks to emit the omitted-frame notice before the kept
(newer) images, since the byte budget drops the oldest frames — keeping
reconstructed blocks oldest-to-newest (addresses Codex P2 review).

Commit 3bcbf1515 (fix#3258) moved the compaction summary to position 0
(top of transcript) as a side-effect of collapsing compacted history for
performance. This caused the divider to scroll into native scrollback where
Ctrl+O could no longer expand it — users got no visible feedback after /compact.
In collapsed transcript mode (display), emit kept messages first, then the
compaction summary, then post-compaction messages — restoring the chronological
position. Agent context (non-transcript) keeps summary-first ordering unchanged.
With collapseCompactedHistory the live display fell into the LLM compaction
branch, which skips the firstKeptEntryId..compaction turns whenever an OpenAI
remote-compaction replacementHistory payload is present. That payload feeds the
provider only and is not rendered, so a remotely-compacted session showed just
the summary plus post-compaction rows, hiding recent turns that were visible
before. Emit the kept SessionEntry rows in transcript mode regardless. Adds a
regression.
Tail appended transcript JSONL instead of rebuilding rendered history on every poll, collapse compacted history for live chat rendering, and replace synchronous session rewrites so tailers detect historical changes.
