- Tool execution now renders every 16ms and advances spinner glyphs only every 80ms using a tracked last-advance timestamp.
- Output block shimmer ticks were reduced to 16ms so border-frame updates align with the 60fps cadence for smoother animation.
- Preserved hidden tmux overlays in live viewport while keeping native scrollback intact during forced renders.
- Adjusted forced-render handling so pure appends preserve full scrollback and return viewport repaint on equal-size diffs.
- Capped streaming edit diff previews to a fixed trailing window and reported hidden hunk counts.
- Updated tmux and regression tests to validate hidden overlays, nativeText frame sources, and scrollback retention.
- Removed stream preview height tracking and simplified tool call rendering to always invalidate the content box.
- Added +Nk/+Nm turn-budget parsing with whitespace-boundary matching, multipliers, and hard `!` indicator.
- Added per-turn budget lifecycle plus APIs (`getTurnBudget`, `recordEvalSubagentUsage`) and hard-cap checks in eval runs.
- Added hard budget observability in eval preludes and docs by exposing `budget.hard` and documenting ceiling modes.
- Fixed streaming preview stutter with max-row tracking and padding, with tests for preview height and budget parsing.
- Removed `ModelRegistry.create` and updated construction sites to use `new ModelRegistry` directly.
- Dropped the async `ConfigFile` migration warmup path and switched migration handling to the unified `#ensureMigrated` logic used by relocate and load flows.
- Adjusted model registry tests to instantiate `ModelRegistry` through the constructor.
F3 (agent): mutate state.messages and state.pendingToolCalls in place on
appendMessage/popMessage/clearMessages/reset/tool_execution_start/_end
instead of allocating a fresh array/Set on every transition. Subscribers
that capture state.messages by reference now observe updates directly.
Public type signature unchanged.
F5 (ai): add parseStreamingJsonThrottled to utils/json-parse — a per-delta
wrapper around parseStreamingJson that skips the re-parse until the
buffer has grown by minGrowthBytes (default 256). Wired into every
provider's tool-call argument accumulator (anthropic, amazon-bedrock,
openai-completions, openai-codex-responses, openai-responses-shared) so
per-delta cost becomes O(N) in total buffer length instead of O(N²).
Every provider's toolcall_end still runs a final unthrottled parse, so
the published block.arguments is unchanged.
F8 (coding-agent): drop the per-delta structuredClone of streaming tool
arguments in ToolExecutionComponent.updateArgs. event-controller.ts and
ui-helpers.ts already spread their input into a fresh object on each
delta, so cloning here was dead work on the rendering hot path. Added a
reference-equality short-circuit so repeat calls with the same args
object skip the preview-diff and display refresh.
- Renamed the partial-json helper and removed edit-mode checks so raw streamed text in `__partialJson` is converted to `input` whenever `input` is absent.
- Updated preview, render, and fallback argument preparation to use the shared helper for consistent `input` fallback handling.
- Added helper logic to treat raw non-JSON `__partialJson` values as edit `input` for hashline and apply_patch args.
- Updated edit argument preparation, preview generation, and streaming fallback rendering to use that derived input.
- Added renderer tests verifying raw hashline and apply_patch partial streams render target paths and patch content.
- Added clockwise sweeping dark segment animation to output block borders while bash/eval tool calls are pending/running.
- Changed bash renderCall to immediately render a full bordered block instead of a one-liner status preview, so silent commands show the framed block for their entire runtime.
- Added shimmerEnabled() helper and wired animate flag through OutputBlockOptions, CodeCellOptions, and shell/eval renderers.
- Added todo_write strike-frame animation timing and updated execution flow after completion finalizes.
- Added strike animation cancellation in cleanup to clear todo timer and reset frames when spinner is idle.
- Removed todo-closing state and timeout handling from interactive mode and simplified empty todo-list rendering.
- Reworked todo-write to compute completion transitions, track completedTasks, and render strike-through frames.
- Added test coverage for completedTasks, theme setup, and strike-through progression at hold-frame thresholds.
- Propagated task `renderContext` through `ToolExecutionComponent` so call rendering can detect result state.
- Suppressed task call-preview rows when a result snapshot exists to avoid duplicate task lines.
- Updated the edit preview coalescing key to include streaming state plus a hash so final non-streaming diffs are not skipped when payload bytes match.
- Used a hashed partial-stream key as fallback when tool args are not JSON-serializable, keeping deterministic dedup cache keys.
- Added a regression test that verifies single-line hashline streaming edits render the completed preview diff instead of "No changes would be made".
- Redesigned hashline patch syntax from anchor-based (`A-B:`) to hunk-header format (`@@ A..B @@`) with unified-diff compatibility.
- Removed `autoDropPureInsertDuplicates` option and simplified apply behavior to preserve duplicated boundary and context lines.
- Changed repeat operator from `^A-B` to `&A..B` and range separator from `-` to `..` for consistency with hunk-header syntax.
- Added image resizing and dimension notes to eval tool output; improved write tool hashline header sanitation for legacy formats.
- Removed 521 lines of boundary-duplicate absorption code and simplified parser to auto-convert bare body rows and unified-diff contamination.
- Replaced 4-hex content-derived file hashes with 3-hex opaque tags minted by InMemorySnapshotStore, making tags session-bound pointers rather than content fingerprints.
- Removed lru-cache dependency; replaced LRU-bounded per-path rings with a flat 4096-slot global ring using a scrambled permutation to prevent LLM tag extrapolation.
- Made SnapshotStore required in Patcher (was optional); tag resolution now drives stale-anchor detection instead of recomputing hashes at apply time.
- Changed literal payload sigil from `|` to `+` and accepted `^A` shorthand for `^A-A`; added lenient recovery for bare bodies, lone `-` rows, and overlapping bare/concrete block pairs.
- Added isStreaming-aware diff options and trimmed-input handling for streaming/non-streaming previews.
- Added helpers to trim trailing partial lines and strip unmatched trailing `-`/`@@` blocks during streaming.

- Implemented hashline fallback rendering that strips envelope syntax, sanitizes text, and truncates output to a fixed number of lines with a streaming indicator.
- Updated tool execution to populate the fallback preview from the active edit strategy and added a renderer test for hashline envelope input while the diff is not yet computable.
- Added a new `edit.hashlineAutoDropPureInsertDuplicates` boolean setting with default `false` for hashline edits.
- Threaded the setting through tool execution contexts so hashline previews and execution honor the configured option.
- Changed pure-insert duplicate boundary absorption to run only when enabled and added tests for default-disabled and enabled behavior.
- Added a unified eval framework with parser grammar, backend interfaces, and JS/Python execution result types.
- Added eval tool docs and updated prompts for fenced cells, `eval.py`/`eval.js`, and fallback behavior.

- Added eval parser fallback and JS tool-bridge tests, updated imports, and removed obsolete python-mode suites.
- Grouped streaming edit strategies by file path and generated diff previews for each file, with a five-file preview cap.
- Updated patch and hashline preview generation to return per-file preview arrays instead of only the first file.
- Rendered multi-file streaming diffs with file headers in the edit tool UI and stored them when more than one preview is present.

- Added helper utilities in the edit renderer to parse partial JSON fragments and extract the `path` field.
- Used the extracted path as a fallback when resolving the edit target file, enabling partial streamed edit calls to show the path.
- Built and stored the render context before call rendering, and added a test covering partial JSON edit path rendering.
Slots a new "apply_patch" variant alongside the existing edit modes
(replace, patch, hashline, chunk, vim). The mode accepts a single input
string containing a Codex *** Begin Patch / *** End Patch envelope,
parses it with a new lenient parser (heredoc-tolerant), and fans each
file-op out to the existing executePatchSingle so LSP writethrough,
plan-mode guards, fs-cache invalidation and diagnostics are shared
with the patch mode.
Exposes both tool shapes from the spec: the JSON function-tool variant
(§1.2, {input: string}) and the OpenAI custom-tool / Lark-grammar
"freeform" variant (§1.1, raw patch string). The edit tool advertises
a Lark grammar via customFormat and a wire name via customWireName;
openai-responses emits it as a grammar-constrained custom tool when a
model opts in with applyPatchToolType: "freeform" in models.json.
custom_tool_call / custom_tool_call_output are plumbed end-to-end
through the shared responses code (emission, streaming, history
replay), and the agent-loop dispatcher matches tool calls by either
name or customWireName so returned calls route correctly.
Also threads preview/diff rendering for apply_patch through the TUI
(tool-execution + edit renderer) so streaming patches show per-file
diffs like the other edit modes.
Default edit mode is unchanged (hashline); opt in via edit.mode or
PI_EDIT_VARIANT=apply_patch.
