- Introduced normalization for title overrides to handle empty strings as null.
- Enabled atomic persistence for session title updates via `SessionManager`.
- Implemented conditional storage index restoration for failed title updates.
- Moved title persistence logic to a dedicated helper method to ensure consistency.
- Introduced `TitleChangeEntry` type and `TITLE_CHANGE_ENTRY_TYPE` to record title modifications in session logs.
- Added `titleUpdatedAt` and `hasTitleSlot` to `SessionManager` state for persistent tracking of metadata.
- Updated `setSessionName` to serialize title changes into the session file via dedicated title slots.
- Modified session file output to include a title slot header for improved auditability.
Replaces the old /move (which relocated the current session file) with a
new flow that starts a fresh empty session in the target directory, leaving
the previous session resumable via /resume. With no argument, /move opens
a path autocomplete overlay (type to filter, Tab to accept, Enter to
confirm). If the target directory does not exist, a confirmation prompt
offers to create it. Empty move sessions are cleaned up on shutdown.

Kept shutdown flushes lazy while allowing explicit atomic rewrites to materialize pre-assistant session entries.
Added regression coverage for rewriteEntries before the first assistant message.
Fixes#2800
Prevented shutdown flushes from materializing sessions that never produced assistant output, and kept close from marking a non-existent session file current.
Added regression coverage for opening omp and exiting before any prompt or assistant turn reaches history.
Fixes#2800
- Added a `suppressBreadcrumb` option to `SessionManager.open()` so headless opens skip writing the per-TTY `--continue` breadcrumb, and passed it from the subagent opens in `task/executor.ts` and the HTML export open in `export/html/index.ts`, which run in the parent's terminal and were clobbering the breadcrumb with their own artifact-dir session file.
- Added `resolveBreadcrumbToInteractiveRoot()` and applied it in `continueRecent()` so already-poisoned breadcrumbs pointing inside a parent's artifacts dir (`<parent>/<agentId>.jsonl`) resolve back up to the top-level interactive session.
- Added `subagent-breadcrumb.test.ts` covering both that a subagent open keeps `--continue` on the parent and that a stale subagent-pointing breadcrumb is recovered.
Persisted isolated subagents created their fresh JSONL session through
SessionManager.open(), which fell back to getProjectDir() when the file had no
header. createAgentSession still received the isolated worktree cwd, but built-in
tools resolve paths through sessionManager.getCwd(), so file tools could target
the parent repository while patch capture saw no isolated delta.
Allow SessionManager.open() to take an initial cwd for empty/missing session
files and pass the isolated worktree cwd from task execution. Non-empty resumes
still use the persisted header cwd. Add regression coverage asserting persisted
isolated subagent sessions expose the worktree cwd through their session
manager.
- Removed the streaming guard that previously rejected /tan while the parent response was still generating.
- Passed "deliverAs: \"nextTurn\"" when sending the background dispatch breadcrumb and kept "triggerTurn: false" so an in-flight turn is not steered.
- Skipped rebuilding chat messages during streaming sessions and updated tests to cover the non-blocking dispatch path.
- Added session-domain modules and exports for session-entries, context, listing, loader, and migrations.
- Changed persistence to async append writes plus writeTextAtomic, removing sync line APIs.
- Added compaction-aware session context rebuild with dangling tool-call cleanup.
- Added resumable session resolution with status inference, id/stem/suffix matching, and backup recovery.
- Fixed initial assistant persistence by synchronously materializing in-memory entries and keeping a writer open.
- Fixed mid-close append handling to write entries through a one-shot sync writer instead of queuing a rewrite.
- Fixed persist-task gating by tracking pending writes before starting immediate persistence.
- Replaced queued-message interrupt flow with session abort calls on empty submit and escape.
- Removed interrupting state and notifyInterrupting teardown paths from abort handling.
- Updated AgentSession queue operations to use shared steering and follow-up queue views.
- Propagated isAborting through session state and collab payloads to suppress late updates.
- Renamed all functions, types, and constants in @oh-my-pi/snapcompact to namespace-relative names (`snapcompactCompact` → `compact`, `renderSnapcompactFrames` → `renderMany`, `snapcompactFrameCount` → `frames`, `SnapcompactShape` → `Shape`, `SNAPCOMPACT_SHAPES` → `SHAPES`, …).
- Converted every consumer to `import * as snapcompact` member access: `agent/compaction.ts`, `coding-agent` `agent-session.ts`/`session-manager.ts`/`snapcompact-inline.ts`, and all affected tests.
- Renamed internal `geometry` locals to `geo` in `snapcompact.ts` to avoid TDZ collisions with the new `geometry` export.
- Updated `docs/compaction.md` prose and added a Breaking Changes entry to the snapcompact changelog documenting the full rename map.
- Added a new @oh-my-pi/snapcompact package and redirected compaction call sites to it.
- Added provider-aware snapcompact shape resolution for model-specific mixed-frame behavior.
- Added optional image detail support by extending ImageContent and passing hints through OpenAI providers.
- Added native snapcompact render options, including 5x8/8x8 font loading and palette/geometry controls.
The session-observer overlay is gone. The Agent Hub (ctrl+s, alt+a, or double-tap left arrow on an empty editor) presents one overlay with two views: a live registry table (status, unread irc count, current task, last activity; j/k to navigate, r to revive, x to abort/release) and per-agent chat (transcript + input line) — submitting revives a parked agent and steers it via the normal prompt path. Main is the ambient chat and stays out of the table.\n\nrenderInitialMessages no longer takes a prebuilt context: every redraw now reaches for AgentSession.buildTranscriptSessionContext() (full-history transcript with each compaction emitted inline at the point it fired, snapcompact frames re-attached on rebuild). UiHelpers drops the deferred-compaction render and the IRC autoreply branch that the new mailbox bus deprecated. CompactionSummaryMessage renders as a slim divider (── 📷 compacted · ctrl+o ──), expanding to the summary + snapcompact frame count. session-manager.buildSessionContext gains a { transcript: true } mode; an exported buildSessionContextFromFile() reads a session file without taking the writer lock so the hub chat view can tail any agent (parked or live). Theme picks up icon.camera + tool.irc symbol entries.
- Added "available" status so recognized servers show under lazy mode without warmup.
- Rendered full welcome box as pre-TUI splash with fixed slot heights to avoid layout shift.
- Reported lazy servers as available in /status instead of omitting the section.
- Replaced the moved-session stderr write with a structured logger.info call.
- Logged relocation metadata as `{ from, to }` fields for the re-rooting path.
- Removed `<turn-aborted>` guidance injection from `transformMessages`, deleted `turn-aborted-guidance.md`, and dropped the synthetic abort note path for aborted/error turns.
- Updated `c`/`.` continue shortcuts to submit `manual-continue.md` as a hidden synthetic `developer` message via `session.prompt(..., { synthetic: true })` instead of sending an empty user turn.
- Updated tests and changelog notes in AI and coding-agent to reflect the revised abort-context and continue behavior.
- Cached setting path segments and memoized `Settings.get()` results, clearing caches on updates.
- Triggered session-name and session-accent callbacks only when effective values changed, with error-safe dispatch.
- Memoized status-line and interactive accent resolution with cache invalidation on settings/theme/session changes.
- Added regression tests for keybinding precedence, status-line, settings, and accent cache behavior.
When a session's working directory is moved or renamed (e.g. `git worktree
move`), the session file stays under the old cwd-encoded bucket while the new
directory is empty. Resuming was lossy:
- `--continue` rejected the terminal breadcrumb purely on cwd mismatch and then
found nothing in the new bucket, silently starting a fresh empty session.
- cross-project `--resume <id>` only offered to *fork* (duplicate) the session
into the new directory, forcing manual id selection and leaving a stale copy.
Detect relocation via the strong, low-false-positive signal "recorded cwd no
longer exists on disk" and re-root in place with the existing `moveTo()`:
- `continueRecent` re-roots the terminal's last session into the current
directory when its recorded cwd is gone and the new location has no sessions
of its own (otherwise behavior is unchanged). `readTerminalBreadcrumb` is
refactored into `readTerminalBreadcrumbEntry` returning the raw cwd +
session file so callers can interpret a cwd mismatch.
- cross-project `--resume <id>` offers "Move (re-root)" instead of fork when the
source directory is gone; a still-existing different project still forks.
Tests: continue-relocation (re-root on move, no-hijack on plain cd, prefer
local recent) and cross-project move-vs-fork routing.
- Added `/tan` slash command registration and interactive handling.
- Added TanCommandController validation and async task scheduling for `/tan` dispatch.
- Added session cloning that suppresses breadcrumbs, copies artifacts, and handles abort cleanup.
- Added `promptCacheKey` support in Agent and inherited `providerPromptCacheKey` in session creation.
- Added image-reference rendering to make `[Image #N]` placeholders clickable in chat.
- Added MIME-aware image blob materialization with extensioned sidecar paths.
- Added clickable path, line, and URL hyperlinks for read, search, and fetch outputs.
- Hardened OSC8 hyperlink emission with URI validation and control-byte/idempotency checks.
- Registered and triggered a session-switch reconciler during init and after switch.
- Rebuilt resume flow to restore plan/goal mode state and clear stale mode flags.
- Marked fallback and context-promotion model switches ephemeral and skipped them on restore.
- Added regression tests for temporary model ordering, fallback precedence, and mode cleanup.
Auto thinking was silently downgraded to a frozen concrete level whenever a
session was resumed (--continue/--resume/switch). The session log persisted
only the per-turn *resolved* effort, so on restore the code could not tell
"user pinned medium" from "auto resolved to medium this turn"; it cleared
auto mode and pinned the level, and the next turn never reclassified.
Persist the configured selector alongside the resolved level:
- ThinkingLevelChangeEntry gains an optional `configured` field ("auto" or a
concrete level); SessionContext surfaces `configuredThinkingLevel`.
- The three append sites record the configured selector; auto turns record
"auto" while keeping the resolved effort in `thinkingLevel` for display.
- Both restore paths (AgentSession.switchSession and sdk cold resume) prefer
the configured selector, so an auto session resumes in auto mode (shown as
pending `auto`) and reclassifies on the next turn -- consistently across
cold --continue and the in-app switcher. A manual concrete pin still
restores as concrete, even when the global default is auto.
- Leaving auto persists even when the pinned effort equals the level auto just
resolved to, so the concrete pin (and defaultThinkingLevel) is recorded
instead of leaving a stale `configured: "auto"` that would re-enable auto.
Entries written before `configured` existed fall back to the concrete level
(legacy pin-on-resume behavior), so old sessions are unaffected.
Adds a CHANGELOG entry and tests covering resume-stays-auto, manual-pin-stays-
concrete, and pin-equal-to-auto-resolved-effort.
- Classified each session's final message as done, interrupted, aborted, error, or pending from a 32 KiB tail read.
- Rendered the status as a colored segment on the session metadata line.
- Added `peekFileTail` and `readTextSuffix` across storage backends to read file tails in one pass.
- Simplified `MemorySessionStorage` to a string array mirror with a sidecar mtime map.
Treat temporary model_change roles as non-restorable when resuming sessions so context-promotion and retry-fallback models do not override the saved default.\n\nFixes #1649
Try the last active role model first, then the saved default model when the role model cannot be restored during session switching or startup resume.\n\nFixes #1649
Use the last model_change role when resuming an existing session instead of always restoring models.default. Covered both /resume switchSession and startup continue paths.\n\nFixes #1649
- Enabled resume picker to preload sessions and toggle folder/all scope with Tab.
- Enabled resume flow to fall back to all-project sessions and switch cwd on resume.
- Added centralized applyCwdChange to refresh caches, commands, and UI after cwd updates.
- Updated session restoration to adopt restored session cwd and sessionDir when present.
- Added +Nk/+Nm turn-budget parsing with whitespace-boundary matching, multipliers, and hard `!` indicator.
- Added per-turn budget lifecycle plus APIs (`getTurnBudget`, `recordEvalSubagentUsage`) and hard-cap checks in eval runs.
- Added hard budget observability in eval preludes and docs by exposing `budget.hard` and documenting ceiling modes.
- Fixed streaming preview stutter with max-row tracking and padding, with tests for preview height and budget parsing.
- Previously only stripped dangling tool_use blocks from the trailing assistant turn; now scans all assistant turns on the resolved path.
- Builds a set of paired tool result IDs upfront to identify dangling calls anywhere in the message list.
- Adds a test covering a mid-path dangling turn alongside a correctly paired turn that must be preserved.
- Stripped `redactedThinking` blocks (encrypted, no downgradeable plaintext) from trailing assistant turns during context rebuild.
- Cleared `thinkingSignature` on `thinking` blocks so the encoder downgrades them to plain text, avoiding Anthropic's "modified latest assistant message" rejection.
- Extended existing test to cover signed/redacted thinking alongside dangling tool calls.
- BuildSessionContext now normalized a trailing assistant turn by removing dangling `toolCall` blocks when rewound or restored onto that turn.
- It dropped the assistant turn entirely when only tool calls remained to prevent reconstruction from reintroducing synthetic aborted tool results.
- Added `recoverOrphanedBackups` to promote `.jsonl..bak` files back to their primary path when the primary is missing, preventing data loss after a mid-rename crash.
- Changed backup filename from dot-prefixed to plain `..bak` so the shared `*.bak` glob can find it on both real and in-memory storage backends.
- Surfaced the original EPERM as the error `cause` and included both original and retry messages when rollback also fails.
Replaced overwrite-style session rewrites with an EPERM fallback that moves the old session file aside before retrying and restores it if the retry fails.
Added regression coverage for active-session rewrite recovery so the session remains writable after the fallback.
Fixes#1337
`SessionManager.close()` queues `#closePersistWriterInternal()` on the
persist chain. The task awaits `#persistWriter.close()`, which flips
`#closing = true` synchronously before yielding on its inner writer
`close()`. A concurrent `appendMessage()` landing in that yield window
hit the hot path, got the still-cached (but closing) writer back from
`#ensurePersistWriter()`, and threw `Error("Writer closed")` from
`writeSync`. The throw was stashed into `#persistError`; the next async
caller (`flush()` or a later `appendMessage()`) re-threw it as an
unhandled rejection with the original line-1282 stack.
Expose `NdjsonFileWriter.isOpen()` and treat a mid-close cached writer
as a miss in `#ensurePersistWriter()`. `_persist` now falls back to the
async `#rewriteFile()` cold path so the entry — already in
`#fileEntries` — still lands on disk once the close drains.
- Added sync truncation helpers to recursively prepare session entries and externalize image data.
- Reworked session persistence to use synchronous preparation plus `writeSync` with close-state checks.
- Added synchronous session-storage APIs and rerouted write paths to `writeLineSync`/`readTextSync`.
- Added `BlobStore.putSync`, migrated hashing to `Bun.SHA256`, and updated hash tests accordingly.
