The CI gate failed in several non-overlapping ways once the full coding-agent suite ran here: tests wrote into the real $HOME (`/srv/agent-home`) which is read-only, a fixture rotated stored Anthropic API keys but Settings reloaded the user models.yml and shadowed them, an OAuth callback server bound to `hostname:"localhost"` (loopback unreachable in this runtime), a built-in tool metadata assertion only saw `github` when `gh` was installed, and the GithubTool `pr_checkout` worktree assertions assumed `~/.omp/wt` but `XDG_DATA_HOME` redirected `getWorktreesDir()` to `$XDG_DATA_HOME/omp/wt`.
Fixes:
- `packages/ai/src/registry/oauth/callback-server.ts`: drop `hostname: "localhost"` when no caller-supplied hostname overrides it. Bun on Linux refused inbound connections to the listener when bound explicitly to `localhost`; defaulting to Bun.serves default binding restores loopback connectivity.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/status-line-path.test.ts`: route the `~/Projects` fixtures through a writable temp home (spy `os.homedir()`), housed under the repo `.wt/` worktree scratch so the temp home is not classified as a status-line scratch root.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/skills.test.ts`: ditto for the `~/.pi-skills-test-*` mkdtemp in the tilde-expansion test.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/marketplace/project-scope.test.ts`: stop writing `~/.git`; build the entire home-dir guard fixture in a temp dir and spy `os.homedir()`.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/oauth-flow.test.ts`: wrap each callback fetch in a brief retry so the simulated browser redirect tolerates the few-ms gap before the Bun callback server starts accepting connections.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/tools/gh.test.ts`: extend `setupTempHome()` to clear `XDG_DATA_HOME`/`XDG_STATE_HOME`/`XDG_CACHE_HOME` for the duration of the test so the rebuilt dirs resolver routes `getWorktreesDir()` back through the spied home, then restore them on cleanup.
- `packages/coding-agent/test/tool-discovery/initial-tools.test.ts`: instantiate `GithubTool` directly in the metadata fixture so the assertion runs even when `gh` is unavailable (GithubTool.createIf returns null without `gh`).
- `packages/coding-agent/test/agent-session-retry-cap.test.ts`: pass an isolated `models.yml` path to `ModelRegistry` so the two-Anthropic-key fixture is the authoritative credential source instead of any user-level command-backed Anthropic key.
Verification:
- `bun check` → passed
- `bun run test` (full coding-agent suite, 4 buckets, all chunks) → 0 fails
Fixes#3639
- Renamed the `find` and `search` tools to `glob` and `grep` respectively across the codebase to improve command clarity.
- Implemented full-stack support for the renamed tools, including CLI arguments, system prompts, SDK exports, and tool registration.
- Added automated migration logic in `settings` to transform legacy `find` and `search` configuration keys to their new equivalents.
- Updated the `collab-web` renderer registry to ensure backwards compatibility with legacy tool outputs.
- Elevated `eval` to an essential tool to ensure availability across all discovery modes.
- Updated system and tool prompts to mandate the use of `eval` for non-trivial shell operations like conditionals, loops, heredocs, and complex pipelines.
- Restricted `bash` usage to simple binary invocations and single-fact computation to reduce shell-escaping and execution errors.
- Promoted `write` and `find` tools to `essential` status to ensure they are always available regardless of discovery mode.
- Updated `DEFAULT_ESSENTIAL_TOOL_NAMES` to include these tools by default.
- Updated documentation and tests to reflect the change in default essential tool availability.
Fixes#3165
- Migrated all wire protocol, schema definitions, and tools validation from Zod to ArkType across multiple packages.
- Updated extension runtimes, custom tools loader, and TypeBox compatibility shim to expose and use ArkType instances.
- Added a comprehensive ArkType migration guide, validation parity tests, and helper utilities.
- Removed redundant PDF asset routing and parsing implementations from the read tool.
- Removed render_mermaid from tool discovery, task definitions, and registries.
- Removed renderMermaid setting and prompt/docs references tied to the deleted tool.
- Added maxWidth and theme color options to Mermaid ASCII resolution in markdown flow.
- Re-rendered Mermaid ASCII in both directions and clipped output to available width.
Add a default-off "auto-learn" loop. When `autolearn.enabled` is set, after the
agent stops a session controller nudges it to capture reusable lessons: durable
facts go to long-term memory and repeatable procedures become "managed skills" —
SKILL.md files written to an isolated ~/.omp/agent/managed-skills directory that is
discovered and surfaced like authored skills but never overwrites them.
Two tools back this:
- `manage_skill` — create/update/delete managed skills.
- `learn` — record a lesson, optionally minting/enhancing a managed skill in the
same call (requires a hindsight/mnemopi memory backend).
The nudge is passive by default (a hidden reminder rides the next turn);
`autolearn.autoContinue` instead auto-runs one capture turn at stop, and
`autolearn.minToolCalls` (default 5) gates trivial turns. Plan/goal-mode turns and
subagents are never nudged, and the controller re-checks the live setting at fire
time so a mid-session opt-out takes effect.
Isolation & precedence: managed skills are a separate lowest-priority discovery
provider, so an authored skill of the same name wins across every provider and
custom directory regardless of third-party toggles; a disabled higher-priority
authored skill can never hide a managed one, and managed never masks an enabled
authored skill. Managed names and descriptions are sanitized on both write and
read (control/format chars, angle brackets, and Markdown fences) before they render
into the system prompt, and the SKILL.md byte cap is enforced on the final
serialized file.
Default off → zero footprint when disabled.
- Fixed `/dump` output (`session-dump-format.ts`) and the RPC `get_state` `dumpTools` payload (`rpc-mode.ts`) serializing Zod schema instances — leaking `def`/`shape` internals and stringified methods — by converting parameters through `zodToWireSchema` like providers receive.
- Fixed context-usage token estimation stringifying the Zod `def` tree, which overcounted tool schema tokens in the status line.
- Fixed tool-discovery indexing (`tool-index.ts`) returning empty `schemaKeys` for Zod tools, weakening BM25 ranking; keys are now recovered via wire conversion.
- Fixed the extension inspector panel rendering "(no arguments)" for Zod tools by reading properties off the converted wire schema.
- Added coverage in `tool-index.test.ts` plus new `context-usage.test.ts` and `session-dump-format.test.ts`, and a changelog entry.
- Introduced filterInitialToolsForDiscoveryAll() to centralize tool filtering when discovery mode is "all", replacing inline logic in createAgentSession.
- Added forceActive parameter to ensure tools required by forced tool_choice features (e.g., eager todo) remain active in the request, preventing provider 400 errors.
- Updated eager todo enforcement to check active tool set instead of registry, ensuring it respects tool discovery hiding.
- Described "auto" default gating MCP tools past 40-tool threshold.
- Noted late resolution in createAgentSession after registry exists.
- Updated legacy mcp.discoveryMode mapping to MCP-only.
- Made "auto" the default, hiding MCP tools past 40-tool threshold.
- Centralized discovery mode resolution in shared mode helper.
- Activated search tool in createAgentSession once full registry exists.
- Updated hashline streaming preview tests to generate snapshot-tagged section headers and use an in-memory snapshot store.
- Replaced untagged file markers in multi-section preview inputs with `formatHashlineHeader` values derived from recorded file contents.
- Changed the bash command error test to expect a returned `isError` result with exit code 1 instead of a rejected promise.
- Added `mnemosyne.scoping` setting: `global`, `per-project`, and `per-project-tagged`.
- `per-project-tagged` writes to a project-local bank while merging global memories on recall.
- Refactored `MnemosyneSessionState` to manage scoped recall/retain targets and deduplication.
- Updated hindsight tools to route recall/retain through scoped methods.
- Removed deprecated MCP-specific type aliases and functions from tool-discovery module, consolidating to unified generic tool discovery API.
- Migrated session and SDK code to use generic filterBySource() and collectDiscoverableTools() instead of MCP-specific variants.
- Removed deprecated interface members including hasQueuedMessages(), FocusPane, AcpBuiltinCommandRuntime, and legacy settings methods.
- Updated test suites to use renamed generic discovery methods and removed back-compat test coverage for legacy MCP shapes.
- Added `.ipynb` detection and editable-cell conversion utilities, including merge/serialize helpers in `edit/notebook`.
- Rerouted hashline, patch, and replace edit flows, plus read/write paths, through notebook-aware helpers before persistence.
- Removed the dedicated `notebook` tool, its schema flags, renderer, and built-in registration/settings checks.
- Updated notebook read behavior, docs, and tests so `.ipynb` reads return editable `# %%` cells and edits reserialize to JSON.
- Added optional `loadMode` and `summary` fields to `AgentTool` and related type declarations.
- Added `loadMode` and `summary` metadata to built-in tool classes for discoverable/essential behavior.
- Replaced `BUILTIN_TOOL_METADATA` with per-tool fields in discovery code paths.
- Updated `search_tool_bm25` and discovery indexing to use each tool's `summary` text.
- Updated discovery tests to validate tool `loadMode` and summary completeness.
Restore BUILTIN_TOOLS to Record<string, ToolFactory> so external SDK callers can
still invoke BUILTIN_TOOLS.read(session) directly, and move per-tool discovery
metadata (loadMode, summary) into a dedicated BUILTIN_TOOL_METADATA map. All
internal callers (computeEssentialBuiltinNames, getBuiltinDiscoverableEntries,
createTools, sdk.ts initial-tool filter, agent-session built-in collection) now
read metadata through the new map.
Restore the legacy MCP discovery API on AgentSession: getDiscoverableMCPTools()
returns DiscoverableMCPTool[] with description, and getDiscoverableMCPSearchIndex()
returns the legacy DiscoverableMCPSearchIndex whose documents expose
tool.description while remaining usable by searchDiscoverableTools (summary is
populated from description so the BM25 corpus still scores correctly). Generic
discovery via getDiscoverableTools / getDiscoverableToolSearchIndex is unchanged.
Centralize discovery cache invalidation in #invalidateDiscoveryCaches and call it
from #applyActiveToolsByName, refreshMCPTools, and refreshRpcHostTools so the
generic search index can no longer return tools that have already been activated
or registry entries that have been replaced.
Restrict #collectDiscoverableBuiltinTools to entries whose
BUILTIN_TOOL_METADATA[name].loadMode === "discoverable", which keeps hidden
tools (resolve, yield, exit_plan_mode, report_finding, report_tool_issue) and
unknown extension/custom registry entries out of the discovery corpus.
Tests: add coverage for callable BUILTIN_TOOLS factories, legacy MCP description
shape on getDiscoverableMCPTools / getDiscoverableMCPSearchIndex, stale-index
invalidation on setActiveToolsByName, and hidden-tool exclusion from
getDiscoverableTools({ source: "builtin" }).
Added two settings:
- tools.discoveryMode ("off" | "mcp-only" | "all", default "off")
- tools.essentialOverride (string[], default empty)
Converted BUILTIN_TOOLS from Record<string, ToolFactory> to
Record<string, BuiltinEntry> with a per-tool loadMode ("essential"
or "discoverable") and an optional summary used as the BM25 corpus
entry when discovery hides the tool.
Marked read, bash, edit as essential. Marked the remaining 24 built-in
tools as discoverable with hand-written summaries. search_tool_bm25
stays essential (always loaded when discovery is on; gated separately
by isToolAllowed).
Added DEFAULT_ESSENTIAL_TOOL_NAMES, computeEssentialBuiltinNames
(reads tools.essentialOverride with a default fallback), and
getBuiltinDiscoverableEntries (used by the search tool to build the
BM25 corpus).
mcp.discoveryMode is preserved as a back-compat alias for "mcp-only".
Moved the BM25 discovery index out of mcp/discoverable-tool-metadata.ts
into tool-discovery/tool-index.ts and generalized it to work over any
AgentTool source (built-in, MCP, extension, custom) instead of only MCP.
Added DiscoverableTool with explicit source and summary fields. Kept
the MCP-typed helpers (collectDiscoverableMCPTools, searchDiscoverable
MCPTools, etc.) as thin re-exports from the original path so existing
callers continue to work unchanged.
Tests cover the generic index, source filtering, summary fallback, and
back-compat with the legacy MCP-only API.
